Where do the exchange rates come from?
Fiat currencies use the European Central Bank's reference rates (via the Frankfurter API), which publish on bank business days — so fiat rates typically update once per weekday and hold steady on weekends and holidays. Cryptocurrency prices come from CoinGecko and update continuously, 24/7. Rates are indicative and not financial advice.
How do I add or remove currencies?
Tap "Add currency or crypto" at the top of the Currency screen, then search by code or name (for example "USD", "Danish", or "Bitcoin"). Tap a currency to add it. To remove one, use Edit (top-right) or swipe a row. Tap the star in the picker to keep favorites at the top.
Why does tapping a row sometimes not open the keyboard?
That's by design. Each row has two tap zones: tapping the left side makes that currency your base without opening the keyboard, while tapping the right side (the amount) opens the keyboard so you can type a value. This lets you switch base currencies quickly.
How does the price scanner work?
Open the Scan tab and point your camera at a price. Rate24 reads the number on-device using Apple's text recognition and converts it to your chosen currency. Images are processed locally and never stored or uploaded. If you're on a device without a camera or you decline camera access, you can type the amount instead.
How do I set a rate alert and get notified?
Go to Charts → Rate alerts, tap +, choose the currency pair, a target value, and a direction (rises to / falls to). Tap "Enable notifications" to allow alerts. Rate24 checks periodically in the background and notifies you when the rate crosses your target. Background timing is controlled by iOS and is best-effort.
The app's language or currency names look different — why?
Rate24 follows your iPhone's language setting. It ships in English (the default) with Danish included, so a device set to Danish shows Danish, while other languages fall back to English. Numbers and currency formatting also follow your region.
Does Rate24 work offline?
Yes. The app keeps the last fetched rates so you can keep converting without a connection. It shows an "offline" indicator and refreshes automatically once you're back online.
How do I add the home-screen or lock-screen widget?
Long-press your home screen (or the lock screen) → tap + / Customize → search for "Rate24" → choose a size and add it. Long-press the widget and tap Edit to pick which currency pair it shows.
What does Rate24 do with my data?
Nothing leaves your device through us — no account, no tracking, no ads. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Troubleshooting
- Rates aren't updating: pull down to refresh on the Currency screen, and check your internet connection. Fiat rates only change on bank business days.
- Notifications aren't arriving: open iOS Settings → Notifications → Rate24 and make sure they're allowed; also confirm an alert is enabled in the app. Background delivery timing is decided by iOS.
- The scanner isn't detecting a price: make sure the number is well-lit and in frame, hold steady, and confirm camera access is allowed in iOS Settings → Rate24.
